Today on our mini-series with Mr. Level Owner, Joe Work, and Virteom CEO Dan Carbone, we talk about front steps that have settled and how Mr. Level was able to come in with polyurethane foam and pump it back up to regulation.
MY FRONT STEP HAS SETTLED - WHAT SHOULD I DO?
It's hard enough for the Average Joe to climb uneven, settled steps. But imagine having to climb these same steps as a child or a grandparent? Uneven settled steps are a trip hazard, and make it hard just to get in and out of your front door.
We've seen uneven, settled concrete steps many times in the concrete leveling business, but in this particular case -- we went out to an elderly couple's house and took care of their settled cement.
UNEVEN STEPS: BREAKING CITY CODES
Having to climb steps that are significantly different in height, depth and width from the other stairs can upset climber's balance -- resulting in a fall. Step building codes are based on the assumption that each step should be the same size, making it easy to climb.
Uneven, Settled Steps (Before):
City code says your step needs to be seven to eight inches from the top of one step to the other step. In this case, our client's stairs were nine inches on the right side, and eight inches on the left side -- talk about uneven! They called upon Mr. Level to come in and level the stairs and walkway, so it's safe and easy to climb.
HOW DID MR. LEVEL FIX THE SETTLED STAIRWAY?
Mr. Level was able to come in and fix the settled stairs by a form of concrete leveling called polyurethane pumping. We only do polyurethane concrete raising at Mr. Level because it's more effective. (We recommend polyurethane over mudjacking everytime. Find out the advantages of polyurethane here)
To fix uneven cement, we:
- We drill a 5/8" (the size of a dime) hole into the slab
- Then a tapered delivery port installs into that same hole.
- The injection gun is connected to the port, and the injection gun delivers the polyurethane material through the port and slab.
- Expansion of the material occurs within seconds, compressing loose soils and raising concrete.
As you see in the photos, the drill holes leave behind dust. This dust will go away with just a few rains -- or if you really want it gone, you can spray it down with a hose.
THE MR. LEVEL ADVANTAGE
There are many concrete leveling companies you can choose from, but Mr. Level delivers on the smallest drill-holes, and we match the product we pump in each hole to your concrete. No other company in Ohio does this. We really want to make the concrete leveling process painless as possible; we want to go virtually unnoticed.
